Welcome to Year 1!
Your class teacher in Year 1 is Mrs Tennyson, who will be supported by two very experienced adults in class- Miss Renkin and Miss Birkett.
We are looking forward to a very busy year, learning about lots of different topics and having fun while we learn.
We will continue to follow our Monster Phonics monsters, learning more sounds to help us to become fluent readers and to nurture our love of reading.
In Science we will discover all about light and shadows, materials, plants and animals and in the spring term we are looking forward to receiving some very special visitors to our classroom so that we can learn more about how living things grow and develop during their life cycle.
We are also following the new and exciting RE curriculum this year which will help us to understand and experience the Gospel more deeply and to reflect how we can put what we learn into practice in our own lives.
Throughout the year we will have lots of opportunities to learn and each term promises to be very busy! However, in Year 1 we want to make sure we have lots of fun along the way. We are not afraid of making mistakes because we know that we learn best through experimenting and having a go!
Year 1 Class Saint
Saint Paul (Feast Day- 29th June)
St Paul was originally known as Saul. He was a man who persecuted Christians until Jesus spoke to him on the way to Damascus. Saul was blinded by a dazzling light as Jesus asked him, “Why do you persecute me?”
Jesus asked a Christian named Ananias to visit Saul and to tell him the plans he had for him. As Ananias put his hand on Saul’s shoulder his vision was returned.
Saul was baptized and became known as Paul the Apostle. He travelled far and wide telling everyone about Jesus. Saint Paul is known as one of the founders of Christianity.
