Andy Tooze
Today we were joined by poet Andy Tooze! The whole school had lots of fun listening and participating in his poems. Andy worked in every class before we joined together as a whole school to perform some of Andy’s poems, and our own which we had worked hard on to write in Andy’s workshops throughout the day. We produced poems about our hobbies, animals, body parts and our hopes and dreams for the future.

World Poetry Day
We commenced World Poetry Day by joining together as a school in the hall. Year 3 provided us with an absolute treat- they have been working hard to recite the poem ‘Spring’ by Karla Kuskin for the Poetry By Heart competition. They did a fabulous job and all put lots of effort into their expression and learning the poem off by heart! We then carried out lots of brilliant poetry work in our classes.

Year 6- Play in a Day
Year 6 had a fantastic day and thoroughly enjoyed their visit from the theatre company who helped them learn and perform Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’. At the end of the day, the rest of St Mary’s and the Year 6 parents enjoyed watching the Year 6’s who put their all into delivering a fantastic play!
Year 6 work with author, Helen Haraldsen, and actor, Thomas Donnan
15th September 2023
On Friday, Year 6 had a fantastic day working with local author Helen Haraldsen. They created their very own story ‘The Final Life’ which was about a black cat called Moggs who explored his nine lives in rather extraordinary ways. They then recorded their story to create an audio story with actor Thomas Donnan.
