Science Vocabulary
At St Mary’s, we understand the importance of vocabulary. We understand that it is the gateway to understanding complex concepts, yet to many pupils, it remains a formidable barrier. We ensure that we are supporting our pupils in navigating this linguistic labyrinth as we understand that it is paramount for active engagement in science learning and effective communication and understanding.
In each class you will find a word wall. Within lessons teachers make explicit to the children vocabulary they should be using, must be using and could be using. These are working walls and, in every lesson, words are explored as they are moved around the word wall. Words discussed in previous lessons are also revisited.
