At our Nursery, we understand that maths is about much more than numbers — it’s about helping children make sense of the world around them. From sorting and counting toys to exploring shapes and patterns, early maths experiences build the foundations for problem-solving, reasoning, and critical thinking. Through play-based activities and hands-on exploration, we nurture children’s curiosity and confidence, helping them develop a love of learning that will support their mathematical understanding for years to come.

We use the Mastering Number Programme in Reception and as an intervention in KS1. This programme focusses on the key knowledge and understanding needed in Reception, and progression through KS1. Our Lead Teachers have received training and are part of an online community, who share practice and engage in critical reflection. Teaching materials are provided for four short sessions each week, aimed at developing children’s fluency and flexibility with number. To ensure that we cover all elements we use the White Rose Maths resources to cover space, shape and measure.
