Welcome to Year 1!

In Year 1, children continue their learning journey with Mr. Hodge and Miss Harding, enjoying a wide range of exciting experiences and plenty of hands-on activities that make learning come to life. Every day offers new opportunities to explore, discover, and grow in confidence. One of the children’s favourite lessons so far has been making snow — a perfect example of how curiosity and creativity go hand in hand in our classroom! Year 1 is a place where learning is active, fun, and full of wonder.

So far this term in English, we have been focusing on our speaking, listening and oracy skills.

We have been watching Bubbles and For the Birds. These are both short films with no spoken words, using only music and strong moral messages.

We have been asking and answering questions and talking about what we can see and notice in the films. We have also been building sentences and thinking about how the characters are feeling at different points in the stories.

In our books, we have enjoyed drawing scenes from the films. We have then written words and short sentences to describe what is happening in each scene.
