Local author, Helen Haraldsen, joined us at St Mary’s to train fifteen of our Year 5 and 6 children to be ‘Reader Leaders’. The children developed their understanding of the reading process, including phonics and reading comprehension: they focused on developing younger pupils’ retrieval and inference skills. Moving forward, each leader will tutor and support a younger child in school with their reading. They will carry out 30 minutes of reading each week with their partner: we cannot wait to watch the children’s confidence and love for reading develop!
