At St Mary's, we know that 2-year-olds are wonderfully unique — and we’re dedicated to nurturing them with the care, patience, and love they deserve. Staff work very closely with parents and carers to make sure that children transition into the provision as smoothly as possible. We take a really flexible approach, especially when our 2's are first joining us, so that the children join at their own pace - and we are guided by parents and carers on this at all times.
To support our play based approach our classroom has a wide range of continuous provision to support, challenge and develop the skills we are teaching. Continuous provision is well planned for all learners to access during 'Exploring' time. It is enhanced frequently to fit in with topics and children's interests.
At St Mary’s, we understand that play is a vital part of early childhood development — not just fun, but foundational. For our youngest children, both indoor and outdoor play offer endless opportunities to explore, imagine, and learn. Whether they’re building, painting, running, or discovering the world around them, we ensure every child is supported in a safe, engaging environment that encourages curiosity and joy every day.
The outdoor has been carefully planned to provide spaces for sand and water play, a track for cars and bikes, wooden seating and planting areas, mark-making, a mud kitchen and a play house.
We currently offer afternoon sessions for our two-year olds. We also have availability for 2-year-old children with a Working Parent Funding Entitlement to take up a 30-hour place in school [8.45am-3.30pm daily].
