Class 1: 2018-2019
This morning we had another special visitor! Sienna's Mummy, who is a dental nurse popped into class to tell the children how she helps people.
She talked to the children about her job and told them how they could keep their teeth healthy.
The children asked lots of very interesting questions and they found out some great information. They got their own dental mask and toothpaste to take home too!
Today, the children in Class 1 got a special visit from Red Watch Fire Fighters from Workington Fire Station.
The children were all extremely excited.
The Fire Fighters spoke to the children about their job and told them all about the different ways they help people.
The Fire Fighters dressed Miss Orr up in their special protective clothes (which children found very funny). They dressed up themselves, squirted the hose and even got to sit in the Fire Engine!
The children had a fantastic morning and learnt so much about the Fire Brigade. They thanked the Fire Fighters with thank you letters and drawings. One child even asked if they could come back everyday!
This half term in Class 1 the children are learning all about 'People who help us'. We had a special visitor this week, PCSO Lauren came to visit the children. She came in to chat to the children about being a Police Officer and what her job entailed. Lauren explained to the children that the police were there to help and are not to be afraid of. The children listened beautifully and asked some excellent questions.
This week in Class 1 we have been celebrating a very special birthday. The children learnt that it was Leo's birthday this week. Leo is a character from a book they have been looking at called 'The Knight who wouldn't Fight'.
The children got straight to work writing party invitations, creating birthday cakes and wrapping presents with special tags on just for Leo.
The children wanted to celebrate and have a party for Leo on Friday. They carefully chose what food to make for the party; they decided to make a birthday cake, sandwiches and they decorated biscuits too.
Finally, Friday arrived and the party was amazing! The children were very excited to eat the party food, give Leo his presents and play party games!
As you can see by all our wonderful photographs below, we were having so much fun planning our party;
- we practiced our writing to create personalised tags and invites
- we worked as a team
- we planned, designed and built castles
- and we used weights and measures to make the birthday cake
What a fantastic week!
Class 1: 2017-2018
In class 1 we have been busy planting seeds for our spring garden. We helped Percy the Parkeeper by writing a set of instructions in our English work. We hope we will be able to observe our seeds closely to see how they change and grow.
On Friday 9th February Class 1 enjoyed tasting pancakes! As part of our RE learning we have been finding out about Shrove Tuesday. This year Shrove Tuesday will take place in half term. We all made a Lenten promise which we will try to keep until Easter.
On Tuesday 6th February St. Mary's School enjoyed a visit from the library van. Class 1 loved listening to a scary story which made us all jump! We also chose a selection of new books for our library book box.
On Thursday 30th November Class 1 enjoyed a fabulous day out on the Santa Express. It was a very cold, frosty morning but we all got wrapped up in our warm clothes and set of on the coach to Ravenglass. We were so lucky to meet Santa on his special train, he even rode along in the carriages with us. We stopped for lunch before meeting Santa a second time. This time he gave everyone a special present before we said goodbye and hopped back onto the train. Santa even let some of us play Rudolph's jngle bells! We had a lovely day and we would like to say thank you to all of the adults who volunteered to come along and help us on the day.
Class 1 have been busy making magical reindeer food to sell at St Mary's Christmas Fair. First we carefully added oats to help the reindeer go really fast. Then we poured in some glitter to make the food sparkle and be seen in the dark. Next we added stars and sprinkles to make the food taste delicious. Finally we added the magic dust to help the reindeer fly. Santa sent us a special delivery of magic dust all the way from the North Pole! We even heard his jingle bells as we poured it into the bowl. Don't forget to buy your bag of reindeer food from the fair!
Class 1 really enjoyed our Halloween Day! We loved dressing up in all of our scary costumes and even practised our counting skills in a special Halloween Hunt around the hall. We also made our own pet bat to take home using a wooden spoon. We also made delicious Oreo Spiders.
On Tuesday 10th October Class 1 made some delicious soup. Mrs McCreadie brought in some huge vegetables! Some were even bigger than us! We talked about all the delicious vegetables before preparing them to make soup.
This week Class 1 have been thinking about the changing seasons. We have looked for signs of autumn in our outdoor area and also went on an autumn walk to Harrington Nature Reserve. We collected lots of colourful autumn leaves and used them to create prickly hedgehog artwork.
Class 1 enjoyed making chocolate crispy cakes on Tuesday 26th September. We are hoping to sell lots of our cakes in order to raise money for the Macmillan Nurses at our Coffee Morning on Wednesday.
Play along with the Alphablocks and have fun with the letters of the alphabet.
Have fun making a colourful picture with Bing and Flop.
